Connor Zilisch Clarifies His Involvement with New NASCAR Team
A recent development in the world of NASCAR has sparked confusion and clarification from one of its rising stars, Connor Zilisch. The teenager, known for his promising career in the Xfinity Series, found himself at the center of a media storm after it was initially reported that he had joined a new team.
On Friday, it was announced that Brent Crews, a well-known figure in the racing community, had launched a new NASCAR team in the Truck Series. This team, named Brent Crews Motorsports (BCM), is set to make its debut at Watkins Glen. As part of the official announcement, the team claimed to be "uniquely positioned" due to being a driver-led organization. It was stated that Zilisch and fellow Xfinity Series driver Jesse Love would be joining Crews as executives within the team.
The press release highlighted that this move would bring a "forward-thinking, driver perspective" to the leadership of the organization. However, what initially sounded like an exciting opportunity turned out to be a misunderstanding.
Zilisch and Love later clarified that they were not officially involved with BCM in any capacity. Zilisch took to social media to address the situation, stating:
"There was a misunderstanding in conversations with Brent’s new truck team and me being an executive. I’m excited to cheer him on as a friend next weekend at Watkins, and I’m pumped to go for 4 in a row this weekend in Iowa with JRM, Chevy, and Trackhouse!"
A similar statement followed from Love, who emphasized that he was not associated with any team outside of RCR or Chevy. He said:
"There was a misunderstanding in conversations talking with Brent about me and Connor’s involvement with his new truck team at WGI. We all share a strong friendship. But I just wanted to be clear I’m not associated with any team outside of RCR or Chevy."
Brent Crews himself also addressed the issue, acknowledging that while Zilisch and Love are great friends, his team had exaggerated their roles within the new organization. He stated:
"Connor and Jesse are great friends of mine, but we went a little overboard in exaggerating their roles. To be clear, they have no official capacity, other than they are friends who want me to do well."
Despite the confusion, BCM will make its debut at Watkins Glen. The No. 70 Toyota, backed by Pristine Auction, will be driven by Crews himself. The team's entry into the Truck Series is anticipated to bring fresh energy and excitement to the racing scene.
This incident highlights the importance of clear communication in the fast-paced world of motorsport. While the initial announcement generated a lot of interest, the subsequent clarifications serve as a reminder of the need for accuracy and transparency in such matters.
As the racing community watches closely, the focus now shifts to the upcoming events at Watkins Glen and the continued careers of Zilisch and Love in their respective teams. Their commitment to their current organizations remains evident, and fans can look forward to seeing them compete in the upcoming races.
